I have to agree, especially with the "______ Movie"...movies... I only saw Epic Movie, and that was after it came out on DVD. The only way to have gotten all the jokes was to have seen all (or at least most) of the movies it references.
ReplyDeleteI do highly enjoy spoof movies (Spaceballs and Airplane are two of my all time favorites), but it's hard to spoof one specific film, much less a lot of specific movies.
But I think the real difference is the difference between silly sight gags (like the silly Scream mask from Scary Movie) as opposed to poking fun at aspects of the film, or genre, like how Spaceball-One is improbably large.
Just my two cents.
